One Stop Centre Scheme (Sakhi): Empowering Women Against Violence

The One Stop Centre Scheme (OSC), also known as Sakhi, was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2015. This initiative aims to provide integrated services to women affected by violence under one roof. The idea is to offer immediate and comprehensive support, ensuring that women in distress can access various essential services without having to navigate complex processes.

Key Features of the One Stop Centre Scheme (Sakhi)

  1. Immediate and Comprehensive Support: Women experiencing physical, sexual, or emotional violence can access multiple services including:
    • Medical assistance
    • Police intervention
    • Legal aid and counseling
    • Psychological support
  2. 24/7 Availability: These centers operate around the clock, ensuring that help is available at any time for women in need. Whether itโ€™s late at night or early morning, women can reach out and get assistance.
  3. Free Services: All services offered under the Sakhi scheme are free of cost, removing financial barriers to accessing crucial help in times of distress.
  4. Nationwide Presence: Sakhi centers have been established in most districts across India, ensuring that even women in rural or remote areas have access to support.

Why Sakhi is Important

Violence against women remains a significant issue in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), crimes against women have been increasing annually. Sakhi aims to create a safe environment for women where they can get immediate help and rehabilitation support.

The holistic nature of the services offered under this scheme not only provides relief in emergencies but also aids long-term recovery and empowerment. Women are encouraged to break the cycle of abuse and take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives.
